Crews

A crew is a tag that more than one writer holds. It posts, it has a page, it has a roster, and it works the same way your own tag does — made on a device, held on devices, never on our side.

Starting one

Crew → Start a crew. Pick a name, write a line or two, choose a passphrase, and it's up.

What comes back is the crew's blackbook — the same kind of file as your own, for the crew's tag instead of yours. It downloads immediately and it's also shown as a scannable block you can print or photograph.

This is the whole crew

Lose the crew blackbook and the crew is gone. Nobody can recover it. Hand it to somebody who shouldn't have it and they are the crew. Treat it accordingly.

Crew names aren't unique either. The crew's mark is what tells one FASE from another.

Handing it out

Anybody who holds the crew's blackbook can post as the crew and run it. To put somebody in, hand them the blackbook — however you'd hand a writer anything — and they bring it in from Crew → Bring in a crew blackbook.

There's a link to that on any crew page you don't already hold: "Hold this crew's blackbook? Bring it in."

Who runs it

Whoever holds the book. There is no owner account, no admin flag, no founder privilege that outlasts the file.

That's deliberate: an ownership row on our side would be a thing to seize, a thing to argue about, and a thing we'd have to keep. Instead, co-management works exactly the way it works in real life — you gave somebody the book, so now they run it too. Same roster, same say.

You take it back by buffing them off the roster. You can't take the file back, so be sure before you hand it over.

Repping vs. the roster

Anyone can Rep this crew on any crew page, and it turns up on their own wall as a claim. That's it — a claim. Merging the two lists would quietly upgrade every unilateral claim into the crew's endorsement, which is exactly the thing a roster is supposed to mean.

Putting someone on the roster (the crew's say) happens on the crew page when you hold the book: paste the writer's link or tag id, hit Look up, check their mark matches the one on their wall, then Put someone on. A writer already repping can be lifted onto the roster in one tap.

Check the mark, not the name. That's the whole point of it.

Posting as a crew

The speaking as chip lives in the top bar. Tap it and you get a menu: You, plus every crew whose blackbook this device is holding. Pick a crew and the chip turns into posting as FASE, with a back to you button next to it.

While you're switched over, flicks, clips, threads and replies go up under the crew's tag instead of yours.

Things worth knowing:

• Your own tag is never touched. The switch points at a crew's book for the session; it doesn't replace what your device holds. Reload and you're back on your own tag.
• Messages always come from your own tag. Private word is between people, and a shared inbox for a shared name is a bad idea in a place like this. So the switcher deliberately doesn't apply to messages.
• You can buff a crew post as long as you still hold that crew's book.
• If a crew's book gets removed from the device while it's the active one, the app falls back to your own tag and tells you so.

Crew pages

Every crew has a page: the crew's picture, name, mark, bio, when it was founded, the roster, who's reppin', and everything the crew put up.

Crew pictures go through the same cropper and the same on-device scrub as your own avatar — drag, zoom, up. If you hold the book, you can change the crew's name, bio and picture from the crew page.

Across your devices

Holding a crew on your phone used to mean not holding it on your laptop. Now it follows you: the crew's book is locked to your own tag and left on the wall, and any device you've restored your tag on pulls it down and unlocks it on its own.

• You don't do anything. It happens when you open the app.
• Only your tag can unlock it. Ours can't, and nobody else's can.
• Crews founded before this existed get seeded automatically the next time you open the app on the device that holds them.

You can still bring a crew in by hand from a blackbook file at any time — that's how somebody else gets put in, and it's the fallback if a device is being stubborn.
